Fulham Palace will welcome thousands of visitors this October as one of west London’s biggest harvest celebrations returns to the historic estate. Apple Day, a long-standing favourite in the borough’s autumn calendar, takes place on Sunday 4 October, transforming the Palace grounds into a lively celebration of seasonal food with family entertainment.
Running from 11am to 4pm, the event brings together more than 50 artisan market stalls, live music, children’s entertainment and hands-on activities inspired by the heritage orchard at the heart of one of London’s oldest gardens.
The Palace’s garden team will lead tours of the orchard, sharing the stories behind its remarkable collection of fruit trees. Several varieties trace their origins to apples sent from England to America in the 17th century, linking Fulham Palace’s horticultural history to a wider transatlantic narrative. Gardeners will also highlight the vital role orchards play in supporting biodiversity, offering visitors a chance to explore the ecological importance of these traditional landscapes.
Families can enjoy a full programme of activities, from children’s trails and face painting to traditional garden games and autumn-themed crafts. Apple Day has long been known for its welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere, and this year promises the same blend of heritage, creativity and seasonal fun.
One of the most anticipated moments of the day is the return of the apple baking competition, where home bakers compete in junior and adult categories. This year’s judging panel includes the Head Chef of Constance at Fulham Pier, adding a new level of culinary expertise to the contest.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy seasonal food and drink from the Drawing Room Café and a range of local vendors, browse artisan makers and producers, and relax to live music throughout the day. The event’s blend of food, craft and community spirit has made it one of Fulham Palace’s most popular annual gatherings.

“Apple day is one of our favourite events of the year,” said events manager Ana Coltatu. “It’s a chance to celebrate the harvest season, our historic orchard and everything that makes autumn so special. From tasting heritage apples and pressing fresh juice to browsing the market, joining in with family activities and cheering on our talented home bakers, there's something for everyone to enjoy.”
This year’s celebration is sponsored by Fulham Pier, the riverside destination for dining, wellness and culture just a short walk from the Palace. Their support helps Fulham Palace continue hosting this much-loved community event, which plays an important role in sustaining the independent charity responsible for caring for the historic house, botanic garden and orchard.
Advance tickets cost £3 for adults, £4 for an adult and child, and £8 for a family ticket, with all proceeds supporting Fulham Palace’s conservation and education work. Prices increase by £1 on the day.
Fulham Palace is at Bishop’s Avenue, SW6 6EA
