Fulham Road restaurant remains under same management
November 24, 2025
Popular independent pizza restaurant the Hungry Turtle has reopened with a brand new look and a new name - Martina.
The Hungry Turtle was opened in August 2017 by Bechara Aoun, aiming to provide authentic Neapolitan style pizzas at a reasonable price in small premises in Walham Court, opposite Fulham Broadway shopping centre.
It proved so popular that Bechara and his team opened a second restaurant, Marta further east at 343 Fulham Road in Chelsea, in November last year.
This led to the Hungry Turtle closing its doors to allow for a revamp.
The team say: “ We felt it was time for a significant refresh. We have had eight wonderful years here at Fulham Broadway to hone and perfect our Romana craft. We took all this knowledge to our second restaurant, Marta and from this, we have elevated our pizza even further.
“ The Hungry Turtle was always about community, a place where friends and families could come together, relax, and share good times over great pizza. We want Martina to capture that same spirit, while adding something new.
“ That’s why we’ve introduced our communal table: a warm, welcoming centrepiece designed for conversation, connection, and, of course, the joy of sharing delicious Pizza Romana.”

Restaurant will serve Pizza Romana
Pizza Romana, says Bechara “ is stretched with a rolling pin and is larger, crisper and baked for longer than Neapolitan pizza."
He adds: " We’ve kept many of your favourite classics on the menu, alongside some exciting new additions that we can’t wait for you to try. So, over the coming weeks and months, please come and visit us, you’ll always be greeted with the warmest of welcomes.”

Martina is now open seven days a week from noon till 11pm.
