A new more functional look for the Parsons Green restaurant
August 18, 2025
Parsons Green’s much missed Italian restaurant Vicino is set to reopen this month, with a simpler new style and an entirely new menu.
Until it closed for refurbishment in 2024, the New Kings Road restaurant had been one of the area’s most popular restaurants since 1987, offering a very traditional Italian ambience and luxurious signature dishes such as lobster spaghetti.
But now, Vicino has announced it will reopen on Tuesday August 26, “bringing all day casual dining to Parsons Green”.
And it says: “We are no longer a classic Italian restaurant with white linens and fancy wines! We will be back with family-friendly London style pizza and fresh pasta.”
The pizzas will use biga, which is an Italian technique used to enhance flavor and texture. Biga is a mixture of flour, water, and a small amount of yeast that undergoes a slow fermentation process - Vicino says it will be 48 hours - before being added to the main dough, resulting in a tastier and chewier crust.
The restaurant is also promising New Haven style pizzas, first developed in New Haven in Connecticut, baked in extremely hot ovens to provide a thin, crispy and chewy crust.
