Cubs and Beavers from the 10th Fulham Scout Group have been volunteering with local charity The Smile Brigade to support residents in need.

The Scouts, all aged six to 10, helped out at the Clem Attlee Community Hall, packing groceries and packaging hot meals for delivery. The Cubs packed more than 400 meals and 100 grocery bags in total, food that The Smile Brigade delivered free of charge.

The volunteers were also able to meet some of the local residents in need that The Smile Brigade regularly work with.

Suzanne Lucas, Group Scout Leader of 10th Fulham Group said, “I am immensely proud watching my Scout group contributing so positively to the local community. I witnessed amazing teamwork, kindness and compassion amongst the young people in the scout group.”

Scout Hamdy Youssef, nine, said “I enjoyed seeing what happens in the food bank and all the hard work it is to get the food ready”.

While Fifi Youssef, six, added “I enjoyed helping the people getting everything ready and especially giving out the food outside.”

The Scouts chose to volunteer with The Smile Brigade, as part of the Scouting programme ‘A Million Hands’ which encourages scouts to leave the world a little better than they found it through planning and taking action to support real change.

The Scouts chose “kindness in their community” as their topic of focus and incorporated their volunteering into their work towards achieving their Community Impact badge.

The Smile Brigade supports vulnerable and at-risk residents across Hammersmith & Fulham.

Alongside free food, the charity host activities for individuals and groups, including cooking classes and their popular ‘karaoke and cupcakes’ for older residents living in care homes.

Each year The Smile Brigade works with H&F to deliver the Big Christmas Lunch, a free Christmas dinner and gift bag for lonely and isolated residents.
