Nostalgic Comedy Drama Premieres at the Barons Court Theatre

Grief, siblinghood and the soundtrack of growing up take centre stage in Tea, Texts and Top of the Pops, a new comedy-drama making its world premiere at Barons Court Theatre as part of Camden Fringe 2026. Written by Leah Watkins and directed by Flo Petrie, the one-hour play blends humour, nostalgia and emotional honesty to explore how families hold onto each other – and the people they’ve lost – through the rituals of everyday life.
The story unfolds over a decade, moving through fragmented memories, late-night conversations and the songs that become emotional landmarks. At its heart are siblings Sam and Noah, played by Watkins and Muireann Galen, whose relationship is shaped by in-jokes, arguments, awkward silences and the quiet moments that pull them back together. Their bond becomes a lens through which the play examines grief not as a single event, but as a shifting, unpredictable experience that is joyful, messy and painful in equal measure.
Music threads through the production like a second narrator, acting as both a time capsule and a way of holding onto the people who shaped us. Watkins’ writer’s note reveals the play as a love letter to her father, who died in 2016, and to the siblings who shared that loss. The result is a piece that feels intimate and deeply personal while still speaking to universal experiences of family, memory and the strange, uneven process of learning to live with absence.
The production brings together two rising talents. Watkins, trained at Sylvia Young Theatre School and Theatro Technis, developed the play through The Director’s Playground in 2025. Galen, an Irish actor with credits spanning acclaimed theatre and international film festivals, brings emotional depth to Noah, fresh from her praised performance in Blue/Orange. Director Flo Petrie, founder of Oneness Productions and a finalist for the Charlie Hartill Award, shapes the play with an emphasis on human connection and actor-led storytelling.
The show also partners with It’s Time, a charity supporting young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent. Their involvement reflects the production’s commitment to destigmatising conversations around grief and ensuring audiences have access to trusted resources.
Tea, Texts and Top of the Pops is being performed on 11–12 August at 7.30pm with age guidance of 16 plus.
