The play follows two survivors on a luxury space cruise
September 8, 2025
A new production from Underground Theatre is set to explore the emotional fallout of apocalypse through a darkly comic lens. Space Karaoke, the company’s second show, brings together writer Ege Kucucuk and directors Yalim Danisman and Nikolas Kunesch in a collaboration that continues their commitment to bold, contemporary storytelling.
Set aboard a luxury space cruise in the year 2050, the play follows two survivors—Dan, a privileged but emotionally adrift young man, and Mia, a solitary chef hardened by grief—as they navigate the aftermath of Earth’s destruction. What begins as a reluctant companionship unfolds into a meditation on intimacy, memory, and the fragile meaning we find in one another when everything else is gone.
Ege Kucucuk, originally from Turkey, is a London-based filmmaker and playwright whose work spans theatre and screen. A graduate of Royal Holloway University in Film and TV Production, Kucucuk has written and directed several short films, including Swine (2022), which won awards at international festivals in Paris and Halicarnassus. His work often blends surrealism with emotional realism, and Space Karaoke continues his exploration of human fragility in extreme circumstances.
Yalim Danisman, also Turkish-born and based in London, trained at East 15 Acting School and has appeared in the BBC series The Turkish Detective and the Netflix feature Barda. Alongside his acting career, Danisman is a playwright and director committed to creating theatre that is intimate, collaborative, and socially resonant. His work often challenges traditional staging and embraces experimental forms.
Nikolas Kunesch, a German-born director and collaborator on Swine, has worked across film and theatre, including the short film The Roof (2022). His approach to directing is rooted in visual storytelling and psychological nuance, often focusing on characters in moments of existential crisis.
The production will premiere at The Baron’s Court Theatre on 29 September and runs until 5 October. Audiences can expect a blend of tragicomedy and sci-fi minimalism, with flashbacks and dialogue revealing the characters’ inner lives and losses.
The Barons Court Theatre is below the Curtain's Up Pub at 28a Comeragh Road, W14 9HR.
