264 ‘boutique flats’ in south Fulham, half of which are affordable flats have been completed

The new Chelsea Botanica development in Townmead Road has been delivered by the council in partnership with Peabody and Mount Anvil. Of the 113 units classed as affordable, 83 social rent flats are being allocated to residents on H&F’s housing register, helping families and individuals move into secure, long-term accommodation within their own community. A further 50 shared ownership units are available to people on the council’s Home Buy register.

Residents will begin moving into the new flats later this month. The scheme is set within landscaped communal gardens designed with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and incorporates a range of sustainability features including low-carbon heating, solar panels, improved insulation and generous natural light.

Cllr Frances Umeh, H&F Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said the new affordable units represent a significant boost for the borough:

She added, “These new affordable flats are a vital addition to our borough and will help local people stay rooted in the community they know and love. It’s fantastic to see this long-vacant site transformed, with 83 of the units now going to residents on our housing waiting list.

“The design places sustainability and wellbeing at its heart, meaning lower energy bills and warm, modern flats that will support families for generations to come.”

Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, joined representatives from Peabody, Mount Anvil and H&F Council to mark the completion of the project.

“I am delighted that City Hall funding helped support the delivery of nearly 300 new flats in Fulham, providing much-needed affordable housing in the borough,” he said. “With units available at London Affordable Rent levels and through Shared Ownership, this is good news for local families and the wider community.”

Simon Barry, Regional Managing Director for London South at Peabody, said the new housing units will make a meaningful difference for residents facing high housing costs:

“In a city where so many people are feeling the strain, the completion of these flats will come as good news for many local families. It’s great to see people moving in and putting down roots in Fulham.”

Marcus Bate, Partnerships, Planning, Communities & Sustainability Director at Mount Anvil, added, “Chelsea Botanica is a landmark development – from the significant number of affordable units delivered to its riverside location and strong sustainability credentials. We’re proud to hand over these completed flats to the community.”
