Mini-Beast World at Sands End for World Environment Day

Families invited to meet the bugs in hands-on event

Mini-Beast World at Sands End for World Environment Day
The day is billed as a 'no fear' event

May 25, 2026

Fulham’s Sands End Arts & Community Centre will be buzzing with activity on Friday 5 June as it hosts Meet the Bugs, a hands-on World Environment Day event designed to introduce children and families to some of the planet’s most extraordinary small creatures.

Running from 3.30pm to 6.30pm, the session offers a rare chance to get up close to a wide range of insects and invertebrates, with expert handlers on hand to guide visitors through the experience.

The event promises an afternoon of discovery, curiosity and gentle thrills. Young explorers will be able to encounter creatures such as red-knee tarantulas, scorpions, giant bat-eating centipedes, bird-eating spiders, giant snails, millipedes and stick insects. Several of the friendlier species can be safely handled, giving children the opportunity to feel the texture and movement of these remarkable animals while learning about their habitats and behaviours.

Organisers say the aim is to spark fascination rather than fear, encouraging families to appreciate the essential role insects and other mini-beasts play in ecosystems around the world. With World Environment Day focused on protecting and restoring nature, the event offers an accessible way for children to understand how even the smallest creatures contribute to the health of the planet.

Tickets cost £6.50 and are available through Eventbrite. The Sands End Arts & Community Centre, located on Peterborough Road, will host the session in its bright, family-friendly space, making it an ideal after-school outing for local families looking to celebrate the natural world in a memorable way.

Sands End Arts & Community Centre is on Peterborough Road, Fulham, SW6 3EZ.
