Michelin-starred chef Adam Byatt has launched his new riverside restaurant, Brasserie Constance, on the first floor of Fulham Pier.

The brasserie follows the opening of a range of casual food outlets on the ground floor of the new Fulham Pier development, by Fulham FC’s new riverside stand.

Fulham resident Adam, who gained his Michelin star at Trinity in Clapham, has named the brasserie after Constance Spry, the chef and florist, whose cookery books were hugely influential in the middle of the twentieth century in the UK. She was also known for creating the original recipe for Coronation Chicken.

Announcing its launch, the restaurant’s website says, “Brasserie Constance was born out of a desire to create a restaurant our neighbours would be proud of. Embracing the Thames’ beauty, we also take inspiration from our namesake, Constance Spry, a floristry, pottery and cookery innovator.

“Her ability to brilliantly pair the traditional with the uncelebrated is in every aspect of the dishes and drinks we serve.”

The brasserie is open from Tuesday through till Sunday for lunch and dinner, with a selection of ‘refined bites’ available at the adjoining bar, Flo - named after Constance Spry’s friend and assistant Florence Standfast.

The menu, promising ‘a modern spin on British classics’ includes large sharing plates with dishes including Clay Pot Chicken, Barley & Beer and Mint Crusted Rack of Lamb with Ratatouille; main plates including Grass Fed Sirloin, Hunter Sauce and Semi Smoked Salmon, Butter Sauce & Roe and simpler daily plates including Pie & Mash, Ham, Egg & Chips and on Sunday,
Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding.

The menu also includes a choice of omelettes, salads, shellfish and of course desserts, along with cocktails and wines from a list of 200 curated by the sommelier team at Trinity.

The restaurant’s interior has been designed by Lazaro Rosa-Violán, aiming to make the most of its spectacular setting and views across the Thames, with floor to ceiling windows opening onto its terrace.

Adam Byatt became an apprentice chef at Claridges before moving onto the Berkeley Hotel and then working with ‘chef’s chef’ Phil Howard at The Square in Mayfair.

He was appointed head chef of The Worx – a contemporary restaurant set up inside a photographic studio in Fulham, before opening Thyme in Clapham which was Time Out Restaurant of the Year 2003. Although this venture closed a few years later, he came back to Clapham with Trinity which specialises in dishes using quality British ingredients and which won a Michelin star in 2016.

Announcing his plans for Brasserie Constance last year, he told Restaurant magazine, "I'm delighted to be opening a third neighbourhood restaurant in South-West London. Having lived in Fulham for several years during my early career, it is an exciting full-circle moment to be bringing Brasserie Constance to life within such a landmark destination.

"Fulham Pier offers the perfect setting to showcase the very best of British dining, surrounded by stunning views of the Thames. I look forward to welcoming guests to this new space."

The brasserie is now open for bookings and says: “There are no airs and graces here, so come and you are”, adding that well behaved pups are also welcome. Find out more on the restaurant's web site.
