Gauri Nafrey, founder of the independent bakery chain Bridge Baker, has been named Business Woman of the Year 2026 at the SME London Business Awards, hosted by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The award recognises outstanding leadership, commercial performance and a meaningful contribution to London’s business community. Judges praised Gauri for her strategic clarity, disciplined growth and commitment to building a business rooted in quality, integrity and long-term value.
Speaking after receiving the award, she said, “This is a proud moment. Building a sustainable business takes resilience, focus and a strong team. I’m grateful for the support around me and confident about the next stage of growth.”
Bridge Baker has become popular for its artisan breads, pastries and café culture. Since opening its first site on Wandsworth Bridge Road, the business has expanded steadily, adding bakeries on Fulham Road and Hammersmith Road while maintaining a focus on small-batch production and high-quality ingredients.
The chain has built a loyal local following for its sourdough loaves, seasonal bakes and community-minded approach. Each site combines an in-house bakery with a neighbourhood café, creating spaces that serve both as local meeting points and as showcases for the craft of traditional baking. Gauri’s emphasis on training, staff development and consistent standards has been central to the brand’s reputation and growth.
