Fulham girlguiding trustee Hannah Moran is appealing for donations as she prepares to run the 26.2 mile TCS London Marathon on behalf of Girlguiding later this month.

Hannah has been a part of Girlguiding for 25 years since joining as a Rainbow. She hopes her fundraising efforts will help enable more girls to access the opportunities Girlguiding provides to be themselves, have fun, get creative, explore and try new things with new friends.

Hannah is one of four volunteers running on behalf of Girlguiding this year. In addition to leading 25th Fulham Guides, Hannah sits on Girlguiding’s board of trustees and she mentors school-age students as well as regularly speaking at universities about STEM career paths for girls.

Hannah said, “I’ve experienced some incredible opportunities through Girlguiding - camps, international trips, weekly meetings and so much more. As a volunteer I’ve had the privilege to offer these opportunities to girls and young women while benefitting myself from being part of a community of amazing women. I am fundraising for Girlguiding so that we can continue to inspire girls and give them valuable skills, experience and confidence.”

Having completed a half-marathon before, Hannah is no stranger to training and has managed to fit it into her busy schedule, including a 34km coastal run while on holiday in Sicily.

She said, “I've mostly enjoyed my training! It has been amazing to see what my body can do as I've trained up to long distances and huge weekly mileage counts. It's not been without challenges though and I am fortunate to have very generous colleagues, family and friends who have contributed to my fundraising and supported me through my training.

“My guides boggle at the distances and times involved, but they also love any excuse for a bake sale!”

Zoe Evans, who led a Girlguiding expedition to Argentina with Hannah in 2019 said, “Hannah is really driven and so I wasn’t surprised when she said she was running the marathon. She’s a very committed person and I think she’s just amazing for doing this! The girls in her unit love her, she’s so entertaining and approachable. I’m hoping to be able to support her in person – her efforts have already inspired me, a non-runner, to sign up for a half marathon myself!”

Girlguiding is supported by over 70,000 volunteers, providing a space for girls aged 4- 18 to feel safe and accepted, find new friendships, explore and confront the things that hold them back, and have fun doing things they might never have tried before.
