Award winning Fulham Good Neighbours (FGN) has been helping older, disabled, and vulnerable in the area since 1966 and has now made a short film to raise awareness of its activities.

‘Enter the Fold’ shows how just by walking into its community centre, a person experiencing isolation and needing support can find companionship.

It is directed by Callum Lloyd James with the support of the Media Trust and featuring FGN’s Neighbours, volunteers, and staff.

It is hoped that the film might inspire viewers to visit or call the charity, encourage friends or family to do so, or even volunteer themselves.

FGN has provides practical assistance, social activity and befriending via local volunteers. The charity’s services promote the wellbeing of older and disabled neighbours, including support in the home and garden, and befriending. Social clubs, six days weekly, at the community centre, in the community and even online bring neighbours together, while 1-1 digital support, inclusive of laptop loan and data bundles is also essential in combatting social isolation. Its Good Neighbour Scheme ensures neighbours can request volunteer support for errands such as shopping, transportation, or wheelchair pushing.

Last year, 638 older & disabled neighbours were supported by 210 local volunteers in homes, gardens, the community, its community centre, and online. In 2023, the charity was awarded a LBHF Civic Award and international SALUS Award, and was invited to the Downing Street Charity Champions evening. It is recognised by the Queens’ Award for Voluntary Service.

The aim is to ensure that Fulham is the best place to grow old.

Jamie Hilton, Director of Fulham Good Neighbours, said, “We’d like to invite you to our community centre. If you or your neighbour need help in your home or garden or would like to visit our Social Clubs (6 days a week at our community centre), or learn how to get online, our friendly team of staff and volunteers are here to support. Please visit us at Fulham Good Neighbours, Rosaline Hall, SW6 7QT. We want to hear from volunteers and partner organisations too – please be in touch. Let us know your ambitions for the community, and we will aim
to facilitate!

This year Fulham Good Neighbours is ambitious to support more neighbours and recruit more volunteers than ever before so that Fulham is the best place to grow old and disabled neighbours’ views and ideas are best heard by decision makers. The Neighbours warmly
invite you to support your local charity, whether as a valued volunteer gifting your time or as a donor providing vital funds to support their ongoing work.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site.
