CCTV Team Helps Catch Fulham Palace Road Burglary Suspect
Borough network has assisted in over 300 arrests this year

Hammersmith & Fulham’s CCTV network has helped secure another arrest after a string of overnight burglaries on Fulham Palace Road, underscoring the scale and speed of the borough’s surveillance operation. In the early hours, operators in the council’s state-of-the-art control room spotted a suspect fleeing the scene of multiple break-ins along the street — including one at a local Tesco — and tracked his escape route across the network until Met Police officers were able to close in and make the arrest.
The incident is one of 338 cases so far this year in which H&F’s CCTV team has directly supported police in making arrests. The council says the figures show how its operators are helping an overstretched police force respond to live incidents, prevent crime and keep residents safe.
Inside the control room, staff monitor more than 2,200 cameras across the borough, switching rapidly between feeds, responding to calls from H&F Law Enforcement Team colleagues and directing officers to active incidents. The borough now has the largest CCTV network per resident in the country, including 875 cameras positioned along local high streets. The council continues to identify new locations for its mobile units, which can be moved quickly to areas experiencing spikes in crime or anti-social behaviour.
The network is also undergoing a technological upgrade. New AI-capable cameras, designed to automatically detect knives and aggressive behaviour, are being rolled out across H&F. The first of these has already been installed at Shepherds Bush Green, with further deployments planned as part of the borough’s wider safety strategy.
