London's elite gets caught in a web of lies and mishaps

Mike Bartlett's Scandaltown is currently being staged at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith

This biting satire is directed by the venue’s Artistic Director Rachel O’Riordan at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and runs until 14 May with tickets available at www.lyric.co.uk

Described as a Restoration Comedy for the 21st Century the play aims to uncover a decadent world of sex, hypocrisy, parties and power.

The Lyric Theatre says, “It’s the event of the season and the fame–hungry have come to play, but not all is what it seems when a web of lies and mishaps risk exposing the reputation of London’s elite.

Scandaltown brings together a 12-strong cast: Rachael Stirling as Lady Susan Climber; Richard Goulding as Matt Eton; Emma Cunniffe as Aunty Julie and Rebecca De Souza; Cecilia Appiah as Phoebe Virtue; Matthew Broome as Jack Virtue; Henry Everett as Peter Media OBE and Carson; Luke Hornsby as Freddie Peripheral; Thomas Josling as Tom Double-Budget; Aysha Kala as Hannah Tweetwell; Annette McLaughlin as Rosalind Double-Budget; Ami Okumura Jones as Jenny Hood; and Chukwuma Omambala as Sir Dennis Hedge and Kevin the Postman.

Tickets are available from £10 with £5 tickets for Young Lyric Members. The production is suitable for those aged 16 or over.

The Lyric Theatre has also recently announced that It’s a Sin’s Nathaniel Curtis is to play title role in a forthcoming production of Racine’s Britannicus.

He will be appearing with William Robinson as Nero, Sirine Saba as Agrippina, Hanna Khogali as Albine, Helena Lymbery as Burrhus, Nigel Barrett as Narcissus and Shyvonne Ahmmad as Junia .

Jean Racine’s Roman tragedy is translated and adapted by Timberlake Wertenbaker and directed by the award-winning Atri Banerjee

Britannicus runs at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre from 26 May to 25 June, with opening night on 1 June.
