A new fish and chip takeaway on Fulham Broadway has been granted approval to open until 11pm.
Fishy Delishy had initially requested permission to continue serving until 1.30am.
The hours were however reduced, and an application for late-night refreshment withdrawn, after 19 objections were filed including by local residents.
The applicant also agreed to a series of additional conditions, including installing high definition CCTV and rules relating to match days at Stamford Bridge, leading to the police and 15 of the other objectors withdrawing their representations.
One of the three remaining objectors was due to speak at a Hammersmith and Fulham Council Licensing Sub-Committee meeting earlier this week though did not attend.
Ahead of the item being discussed there was some confusion as to whether Deniz Erdogan, representing the applicant Murat Akkaya, was able to speak.
Matt Tucker, Licensing Officer at the council, explained that Mr Erdogan was initially unable to attend and was due to have representatives in his place. As such he was not included in any of the papers ahead of the meeting. As he was the sole speaker on behalf of the applicant, he was allowed to join.
Mr Erdogan told members Fishy Delishy had acted “in full cooperation with the police, the licensing authority and all other stakeholders or objectors”, adding: “We have taken every condition seriously and have accepted all proposed conditions in good faith and without dispute.”
He added the company understands the sensitivities of running a takeaway restaurant by a football stadium, noting alcohol will only be sold with full meals.
Chair Cllr Mercy Umeh asked a number of questions of Mr Erdogan, including how delivery drivers and litter will be managed.
On the litter, Mr Erdogan initially suggested it would be the customers’ responsibility, with Mr Tucker telling councillors if there are concerns about this point a condition can be added to the application.
There was also some confusion over when stock deliveries would take place, with Cllr Umeh pushing Mr Erdogan on days and times. Mr Erdogan said the deliveries would vary with no specific times planned.
Cllr Callum Nimmo asked about Fishy Delishy only being able to accommodate six people sitting inside at any one time and what mitigations will be in place to ensure this is managed on busy days.
Mr Erdogan admitted it was a “tricky question”, though that there would be staff members on the door.
The opening hours and supply of alcohol were approved for 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 12pm to 11pm on Sundays.
Two further conditions were also added by members, namely that litter patrols should be carried out at least six times during opening hours, and that signs should be displayed at the exits asking patrons to dispose of their waste in litter bins.
A premises licence application for the new Aldi in the Fulham Broadway Retail Centre was approved at the same meeting.
The supermarket had similarly reduced its requested hours following correspondence with locals and the police, with permission granted to sell alcohol and open until 11pm seven days a week.
