Landlady Lorraine Roman, left, with General Manager Gary Hines and Assistant Manager Sue Higgs

Sharp-eyed regulars at The Goose on Fulham’s North End Road may well spot two trophies behind the bar. They represent a notable achievement for Landlady Lorraine Roman and her colleague Sue Higgs, who have both received national recognition from RedCat Independent Pubs, the group that operates 39 pubs and inns across the UK.
Lorraine, 58, a mother of three and grandmother, has been named General Manager of the Year. Her connection to The Goose spans more than two decades. “The dear old Goose and all our regulars are my life,” she said. “You could have knocked me down with a feather when I was told I had won this award.” Lorraine first ran the pub from 2000 to 2017 before moving on within the trade. She returned in 2022.
Sue, 56, also a mother of three, has worked at the pub for the past eight years and was named Front of House Person of the Year. “It’s simply so satisfying enjoying a great camaraderie with Lorraine and our fellow colleagues and welcoming all the regulars and newcomers,” she said.
RedCat CEO Richard Green said it was clear that both Lorraine and Sue at The Goose “really lived and breathed the culture” of the company.
The Goose has operated under its current name since 1996, having previously been known as The Crown and, earlier still, The Fulham Volunteer. The site has a long history as a public house dating back to at least the early 19th century.
