A Fulham pub where a woman was allegedly glassed is expected to reopen within the next few weeks.

The McGettigan’s pub on Fulham Broadway has been shut since late last year following a series of concerning incidents at the venue.

Its licence was temporarily suspended in September after the woman was reportedly hit with either a bottle or a phone, leading to her suffering a seizure.

Security at the pub initially told Met Police officers there had merely been a “minor altercation”, with no mention of the assault or seizure.

The force only became aware of the extent of the incident after being called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS), which informed them of the woman’s injuries.

Officers later found other incidents on previous dates had also not been reported including a woman being allegedly groped by a man outside the venue in May.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee agreed to remove the interim suspension though imposed a number of new conditions, including the installation of high-definition CCTV and that the former Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) no longer be employed by the pub.

This web site revealed in January that Ei Group, which owns the premises, was looking to take on the licence from McGettigan’s following its reported closure in December.

Ei Group had previously leased the property to the Irish pub chain, which has venues in Ireland, Bahrain and the UAE.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s website shows the transfer was completed, with Ei Group holding the current licence. Since then work has begun to be carried out to the premises, with the outside being given a fresh lick of paint last week.

Ei Group was bought by Stonegate for £1.27 billion in March 2020, making the latter the largest pub group in the UK.

A spokesperson for Stonegate confirmed to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that the venue is expected to reopen in August with a new publican. An exact date is yet to be determined.

They also said there are no plans for a name change.

Fulham Broadway has seen a number of changes in recent months, including the opening of a new Wetherspoon pub, Walham Green, in the Grade-II listed former entrance building and ticket hall of the local Tube station.

M&S meanwhile is expected to open its new store in the former Whole Foods Market this autumn, and Aldi was recently granted a premises licence for its space at the entrance to the Fulham Broadway Retail Centre.
