Transport for London (TfL) has announced a major refurbishment project at Fulham Broadway Underground Station, with work beginning on Wednesday 3 December to replace the glass canopy roof above the District line platforms. The upgrade is expected to take 11 months, with completion scheduled for Christmas 2026.
The existing glazed canopy, which spans the open-air section of the station, will undergo a full replacement due to age-related wear. The project involves complex structural work, including surveys, temporary lighting, and phased glass installation. While the station will remain operational throughout, passengers and nearby residents should expect visible scaffolding and overnight activity.
TfL has confirmed that train services will not be affected during the works. However, platform access may be intermittently restricted, and temporary lighting will be installed next summer to facilitate roof inspections. The workforce will operate overnight from Sundays to Thursdays, working while trains are running to avoid daytime disruption.

Andrew Hatch, speaking on behalf of TfL, acknowledged the potential for noise and inconvenience. “We will do everything we can to minimise any disturbance to neighbours, including using acoustic barriers and hand tools wherever feasible,” he said. Letters have already been sent to residents living near the station to explain the schedule and mitigation measures.
TfL advises passengers to check for updates on station access and lighting changes, particularly during the summer survey phase. Neighbours are encouraged to report any concerns about noise or overnight activity via TfL’s community liaison channels.
