A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman at a home in Fulham in the early hours of Thursday morning (30 April).

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to a property in Tyrawley Road, SW6, at around 1.10am on 30 April after reports that a woman had been found with head injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman—later identified as 46-year-old Sophinia Bertrand—was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination has since confirmed that she died from blunt force trauma. Her family are being supported by specialist officers.

Mehdi Madar, 45, of Tyrawley Road, was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder. Police confirmed that he was known to the victim. He was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived.

Madar was charged on Friday afternoon, 1 May, with the murder of Sophinia Bertrand. He was remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 2 May.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation. Officers say residents should expect an increased police presence in the area while enquiries continue.
