Greg Hands urges you to respond to Heathrow’s consultation

July 10, 2023

Dear Resident,

I hope you are well!

As you will remember, from my resignation from the Government in 2018, to vote against the third runway at Heathrow, I always put my constituents and our local area first.

Therefore, I am alerting you that Heathrow is conducting its latest consultation and I very much urge you to submit a response before the deadline at 23:55 on Monday, 17 July 2023.

I am against the expansion of Heathrow Airport. I believe that proposals for the expansion of Heathrow Airport, such as a third runway, will have a negative impact on constituents in Chelsea and Fulham.

I am also against night flights. They are a wholly unnecessary strain on the liveability of London, including Chelsea and Fulham and are indefensible due to the negative effect they have on hundreds of thousands of people's sleep. I have always opposed night flights and have campaigned against them across successive Governments.

I hear first-hand from concerned and distressed residents, who are directly under Heathrow’s flight path, about the detrimental impact the noise of night flights has on their lives.

As your local Member of Parliament, I have campaigned against the expansion of Heathrow and night flights for more than a decade. I have worked tirelessly for the local community, including launching petitions, chaired and hosted public Q and A meetings which representatives from Heathrow attended, responded to multiple consultations and met Ministers frequently to make the case. I have been a member of the Government for most of the last 10 years, and in that time, no significant expansion of Heathrow Airport has taken place.

I have, of course, made a submission to this current consultation, which is on Heathrow Airport’s Noise Action Plan 2024-2028. I focused on the extremely negative impact of night flights, my firm position that that there should be a comprehensive ban on night flights at Heathrow Airport between 23:00 and 06:00 and I have used this opportunity to restate that I am against the expansion of Heathrow.

I have always kept constituents involved in the fight against Heathrow expansion and against night flights. Therefore, I very much urge you to respond to this consultation and pass on this information to family, friends, neighbours and colleagues. Further information on the consultation is available here.

Why not take 5 minutes and respond now? You can respond three different ways:

I have always stood up for my constituents and I will continue to fight against Heathrow’s expansion, and against night flights. It is worth highlighting that since my resignation from the Government five years ago in 2018, Heathrow Airport still does not have a third runway.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please feel free to copy me into your response to Heathrow’s consultation.

Yours sincerely,
