Kona Kai's Tonin Takes Over Tommy Tucker

Plans to reopen much missed Fulham gastropub by mid-August

The Tommy Tucker, the much-missed Fulham gastropub, is set to reopen its doors in August, after being taken over by Tonin Kajac, who runs the nearby cocktail bar Kona Kai.

Tonin says he was as surprised as everyone else in the area at the Tommy Tucker’s sudden closure in October last year.

“On Saturday evening, the pub was as busy as usual after a football match, then the next day we went looking for a Sunday roast and it had shut down overnight,” he says.

The pub, on the corner of Waterford and Moore Park Roads, was subsequently sealed with high security metal doors by its owners, Stonegate Pub Company and a Notice of Peaceable Re-entry fixed to the windows.

At the time, a spokesman for the pub Stonegate Pub Partners said: “The Tommy Tucker in Fulham is currently closed, following the departure of the leaseholder. We will be reopening in due course.”

Now an application has been submitted to Hammersmith & Fulham Council by Tonin London for a premises licence. The application, which is open for comments until 13 July, can be seen in full on the council website using the reference 2023/00982/LAPR.

Though the Kona Kai, a tropical cocktail bar which “promises to transport you to the shores of the South Pacific” offers DJs and partying till 2.30am at weekends, Tonin says the Tommy Tucker, just around corner, is a very different concern and will continue as a traditional gastropub.

The application to the council says it seeks to “update the plan of the premises to change the format of the bar and remove the existing toilet on the ground floor. No other changes. The Licensable activities and hours will be kept the same.”

If the licence is granted, after carrying out these alterations and some repairs to the premises, Tonin says he aims to reopen the Tommy Tucker by the middle of August.
