Tickets now on sale for second run of acclaimed musical next summer
Bugsy Malone is coming back to Hammersmith next summer - and tickets are already for sale.
The Lyric Hammersmith has announced that its critically acclaimed sell-out production of Sir Alan Parker’s Bugsy Malone, with music and lyrics by Paul Williams and directed by Sean Holmes, will return to the Lyric for a
12 week run, opening on Friday 24 June 2016, with previews from Saturday June 11.
Bugsy Malone re-opened the Lyric Hammersmith in April this year following a multi-million pound redevelopment and the creation of the Reuben Foundation Wing. It was the UK’s first professional stage production of Bugsy Malone in over a decade.
Bugsy Malone is set in Prohibition era New York with rival gangsters Fat Sam and Dandy Dan at logger heads. As custard pies fly and Dan’s destructive 'splurge guns' wreak havoc, Bugsy Malone, a penniless ex-boxer and all round nice guy, falls for Blousey Brown, an aspiring singer.
Will Bugsy be able to resist seductive songstress
Tallulah, Fat Sam's moll and Bugsy's old flame, and stay out of trouble while helping Fat Sam to defend his business?
The Lyric says casting is still to be announced.
Sean Holmes, who is Artistic Director of the Lyric and who directed the first run of Bugsy Malone, says: " I'm so pleased that Bugsy Malone is returning to the Lyric. I'm delighted our audience will get a further opportunity to relish Alan Parker’s inspired creation and to be transported by the talent and energy of our young cast."
Sir Alan Parker was awarded a CBE in 1995 and a knighthood in 2002 and In 2013 was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship for his contribution to the British film industry. He says: " I’m delighted that the Lyric are bringing back Bugsy Malone. The 2015 production was beautifully mounted by Sean Holmes and his team and a revelation to me - by far and away the best stage production of it I’ve ever seen."
In its second run, Bugsy Malone will run from Saturday June 11 – Sunday September 4 2016 with previews from Saturday 11 June – Thursday June 23.
