Residents in Hammersmith and Fulham are being urged to check when their bins will be emptied during the festive season to avoid excess waste flooding the streets.

The council has announced a temporary change to waste collection that will see services knocked back a day.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day pick-ups will be merged and moved to Tuesday, December 27. Regular collections between December 27 and 30 will be shifted back a day, which means bin workers will be out collecting trash up until Saturday, December 31.

There’ll be no collections on January 1 with regular service returning from Monday, January 2, 2023.

The council is also offering a free collection service for live Christmas trees. Residents will need to make sure it’s placed in a clearly visible spot that doesn’t obstruct surrounding pavements and has all of its decorations and pots removed.

To avoid missing out, the tree will need to be out for pick-up before 7am on regular collection days between Monday, January 2, and Sunday, January 22.

Failing that, residents can drop off their Xmas trees at 10 designated depots across the borough.
