Hit the urban beach to enjoy Hammersmith's annual festival

Hammersmith's 2012 Summer Festival is back in Lyric Square, which has been turned into a giant urban breach complete with free deckchairs.

From now till September, the 2012 Urban Beach programme features a variety of acts and live events show on Lyric Square's giant screen, including live streaming from the Royal Opera House, Wimbledon, film nights and of course the highlights of the Olympic Games. 

There will also be live theatre performances by the Lyric Hammersmith, plus dance competitiones, fitness demos and live music.

Here are just some of the activities taking place in the square over the next week.

Theatre in the Square - Noon till 3pm until July 5

Inflation by tangled feet
26 – 28 June

Plictics, Economics and Bouncy Castles

You are invited to see a performance by Tangled Feet as they attempt to solve the recession crisis. Tangled Feet present a performance which has never been seen before. Their slapstick comedy is set to have you in stitches as they explore the uncertain ground our world is standing on.  Running time: 20 mins

Symphony by nabokov
Tuesday July 3 – Thursday 5 

Theatre and live gig clash head on. In Symphony, theatrical narrative and live gig clash head on, combining three of the most stunning new writers in Britain today with the musical innovation of Ed Gaughan (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lyric/Filter; Weird Tales, Radio 4). The writers commissioned to create pieces are Ella Hickson (Precious Little Talent, Trafalgar Studios; Boys, Headlong), Nick Payne (Constellations, Royal Court; If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet, Bush) and Tom Wells (The Kitchen Sink, Bush; Me, As a Penguin, Arcola).  Running time: 20 mins

Wimbledon LIVE on the big screen  - June 25 - July 8

If you can't be in SW19 then what better way to enjoy it than in the open air whilst relaxing in a deck chair - provided absolutely free.

PING London - June 29 - July 27

Ping! London is back so get ready graba a bat and step up to the table. As well as freeplay opportuntities, the Ping! tables also offer a programme of scheduled activity including masterclasses and tournaments.
