Passengers using local are being urged to plan ahead as major engineering works will disrupt London Overground and Southern services for four days this October.

Network Rail has announced a full closure of the Mitre Bridge level crossing near Willesden Junction from Saturday 25 October to Tuesday 28 October, to carry out essential renewal works. The crossing, which has reached the end of its design life, will undergo a comprehensive upgrade including replacement of rail, sleepers, drainage systems, and signalling equipment.

The works will affect services on the London Overground’s Mildmay line and Southern’s West London Line, with no trains running between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction, and Clapham Junction and Watford Junction during the closure. This will affect services at stations including Imperial Wharf, West Brompton, Kensington (Olympia) and Shepherd’s Bush. The work is not expected to affect services on the Richmond branch of the Mildmay line.

  • London Overground :
No service between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction.
    Tickets will be accepted on:
    • Bus routes 220, 337, C1, C3, and 28
    • District line between West Brompton and other key stations
  • Southern :
No trains between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction.
Reduced service between East Croydon and Clapham Junction on Saturday.

Tickets will be accepted on:

  • London Underground routes including Victoria, Bakerloo, and Northern lines

Gary Walsh, Network Rail’s West Coast South route director, said, “We need to close the railway for four days to complete this vital work safely. I’d like to thank passengers, freight customers and local businesses for their patience.”

Rory O’Neill, TfL’s General Manager for London Overground, added, “This essential infrastructure work is crucial to maintaining the safety and reliability of London Overground services for the long term.”

Jenny Saunders, Southern’s Customer Service Director, acknowledged the disruption by saying, “These works will mean some journeys are affected over the half term, but they’ll bring long-term reliability for key infrastructure through West London.”

Passengers are advised to check travel updates via National Rail Enquiries and TfL.gov.uk from late September. Journey times may be longer on alternative routes.
