Three Nominations in HSJ Awards for Local Health Trust
Shortlisted for main award as well two in the mental health field
Judges highlighted its patient-centred approach and its ability to respond to the evolving needs

West London NHS Trust has been shortlisted for three major honours at this year’s HSJ Awards, including the coveted Trust of the Year title, marking a significant moment of national recognition for one of the country’s most diverse providers of mental health, community and social care.
The HSJ Awards, widely regarded as the most prestigious accolades in UK healthcare, celebrate organisations whose work has demonstrably improved patient outcomes and strengthened NHS services. For West London NHS Trust, this year’s shortlist reflects a sustained, organisation-wide commitment to innovation, partnership working and tackling health inequalities across the boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.
The Trust’s nomination for Trust of the Year acknowledges its strategic focus on designing and delivering services in partnership with staff, patients and carers. Judges highlighted its patient-centred approach and its ability to respond to the evolving needs of local communities, ensuring care is modern, inclusive and compassionate.
A second nomination recognises the Trust’s Link Worker project, developed by Ealing CAMHS, in the category of Early Intervention and Prevention for Children, Young People and Families. The initiative places mental health outreach directly within underrepresented communities, working with faith groups, schools, voluntary organisations and community leaders to reduce stigma and improve understanding of children’s mental health.
According to the Trust, CAMHS referrals from targeted communities have risen by around 30 per cent, with 200 additional children each month now accessing timely support.
The Trust’s third nomination, for Mental Health Innovation of the Year, recognises its role in the London Major Trauma Psychology Network—a pioneering collaboration embedded within London’s four Major Trauma Centres: King’s College Hospital, the Royal London Hospital, St George’s Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital.
Over the past two years, the network has supported more than 6,500 patients, with around 90 per cent reporting that the service made a positive difference to their recovery. By integrating psychological support into trauma rehabilitation, the network ensures that mental wellbeing is treated as an essential component of physical healing.
Maria O’Brien, Chief Executive of West London NHS Trust, said the triple shortlist was a powerful endorsement of the Trust’s values and ambition. “Being shortlisted in three categories at this year's HSJ Awards is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the dedication, expertise and compassion of colleagues across our Trust,” she said.
“These nominations recognise far more than innovative projects. They reflect our commitment to improving lives by working alongside our patients, communities and partners to deliver care that is inclusive, compassionate and designed around people's needs.”
The winners of the 2026 HSJ Awards will be announced later this year.
