Lime which provides e-bikes for hire as part of an official scheme in Hammersmith and Fulham has upgraded its fleet.

The new 'Gen4' e-bike sets offers automatic two-speed transmission, improved acceleration, new phone holder and interchangeable batteries

This new model will replace its previous red e-bikes in the borough and elsewhere in London where it operates.

Lime says the increased motor power to help riders easily climb hills and restart their ride when stopped/stationary at red traffic lights or zebra crossings.

The bikes also have a new phone holder, allowing riders to navigate and follow directions without having to stop and look at their phones and there is new handlebar display mirroring the one on Lime’s scooters for a standardised display across vehicle types.

A modular design should extend the usable life of the bike to five years according to Lime.

The new model also includes an interchangeable, swappable battery, which means its batteries will now be shared and swappable with Lime’s Gen4.1 e-scooters. This could improve the operational efficiency by reducing van trips and saving energy, alongside vehicle availability and service reliability for riders. Previously, the vehicles had two different battery systems.

Alan Clarke, Senior Director of Policy for Lime UK&I, commented, “Since launching in London we’ve achieved over 6 million rides, with our red e-bikes becoming a recognisable and popular addition to the city’s green and alternative transport network. Hammersmith & Fulham has played a key role in our success thanks to its commitment to implementing greener transport options, including our e-bikes, and it is home to an impressive number of residents that want to live more sustainable and active lifestyles.

“You’ll start to see our new wheels hitting Hammersmith & Fulham roads, as well as throughout the rest of London. Our new Gen4 is here to provide a new and improved Lime-green ride, and residents of Hammersmith & Fulham will be some of the first Lime riders outside of the US to try our latest model. ”
