A man previously convicted of terrorist offences has been jailed after it was discovered he was driving a bin lorry in Hammersmith & Fulham.

50-year-old Andrew Rowe was first sent to prison back in 2005 after he was found to have notebooks containing terrorist material including how to make a mortar bomb as well as an al-Qaeda tape.

His sentence was reduced on appeal and he was released in September 2010 but made subject to a 15-year notification order.

In 2019, after a number of terrorist attacks used large vehicles to smash through barriers, he was informed of his obligation to notify the authorities if he was driving a potentially dangerous vehicle.

In August 2019 he found work through a recruitment agency with Serco and between then and October 2019 he was logged as driving vehicles including skip collection and refuse lorries 31 times.

He received a 10 month sentence at the Old Bailey after pleading guilty to nine counts of failing to comply with terror notification orders. He had received a suspended sentence in March 2019 after admitting fraudulently claiming £5,000 in benefits.
