Hammersmith & Fulham has added four new parks to its growing roster of Green Flag award winners. With the latest awards granted by Keep Britain Tidy, H&F is now home to 25 Green Flag-certified parks—officially recognised as among the best-managed and most welcoming open spaces in the country. The borough still remains behind Hackney which has 33 parks with Green Flags.
This year’s newly awarded sites include:
- Eelbrook Common, Fulham
- Marcus Garvey Park, Hammersmith
- St Paul’s Church and Open Space, Hammersmith
- Vicarage Gardens, Fulham
The Green Flag programme judges parks against stringent criteria covering environmental management, heritage, biodiversity, safety and overall visitor experience. These four additions join 21 other parks across the borough that retained their Green Flag status from previous years.
To celebrate the new accolades, the council plans to hold a ceremonial flag-raising at Eelbrook Common later this summer.
Cllr Florian Chevoppe-Verdier, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said, “H&F is home to some of the most cherished green spaces in London. It’s fantastic that the hard work of our Parks team, Friends groups, volunteers and contractors has been recognised so widely. Safeguarding and enhancing these spaces is one of the many ways we’re making H&F stronger, safer and kinder.”
Among those sites retaining their Green Flags are popular favourites like Bishops Park, Wormwood Scrubs, Ravenscourt Park and Margravine Cemetery—personally noted by Cllr Chevoppe-Verdier as a standout. The borough’s Japanese Garden at Hammersmith Park also continues to impress with its unique design and quiet charm.

In recent years, H&F Council says it has invested over £3.5 million in its 55 parks and green spaces. A further £1.1 million is earmarked for improvements between 2025 and 2027, including new planting, upgraded pathways, lighting, bins and signage.
Residents interested in shaping the future of these spaces are invited to apply to the newly formed Parks Forum—part of the borough’s response to the 2020 Residents’ Commission for Parks and Open Spaces. Up to five volunteers who live or work in H&F will be selected to contribute to park development and community engagement. The deadline to apply is Sunday, 10 August. To apply, email Parks@lbhf.gov.uk.
