West London Strings return this summer with a lively, globe-spanning programme inspired by the 2026 World Cup, bringing music from the United States, Canada and Mexico to St Mary’s Church, West Kensington, on Sunday 5 July at 4pm. The concert is free to attend, with a retiring collection supporting both the orchestra and the Barons Court Project.
The afternoon promises a playful twist on the tournament theme, swapping football boots for bows and strings as the ensemble explores the musical traditions of the three host nations. Audiences can expect a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere in the beautiful acoustic of St Mary’s, just a short walk from Barons Court station.
Founded to give adult string players a welcoming place to rehearse, learn and perform, West London Strings has grown into one of the area’s most inclusive community orchestras. The group brings together musicians of all ages and backgrounds, from those returning to their instruments after years away to confident players looking for a friendly ensemble.
The orchestra performs three concerts a year, often supporting local charities and community organisations. Its ethos is rooted in accessibility, encouragement and the joy of shared music-making — values that have helped it become a fixture of the West London amateur music scene. New players are always welcome, and the group rehearses weekly in a supportive, sociable environment.
