Police are investigating man's unexplained death
Wandsworth Police are investigating the unexplained death of a male who was found in the River Thames near Putney Bridge at 08.15am on January 8.
Chiswick RNLI lifeboat was alerted at around 8.30 am and joined police with diving crews and London Ambulance crews in pulling the body from the river and taking it to Putney Embankment.
The body was taken away for formal identification. It is understood that it may have been in the river for several days and was lifted to the foreshore by the tide.
The identity of the victim has yet to be confirmed.
Chiswick RNLI have had frequent call-outs this winter to pull people from the Thames in our local area. On November 14, they were part of a combined rescue team pulling a man from the river near Putney Bridge, and on December 6, they were again called to the same location to rescue a man who was stuck in mud at the bottom of the embankment off Bishops Park.
Then in freezing temperatures at 0.40am on December 13, Chiswick RNLI Lifeboat was called by London Coastguard to reports of a man in the water near Riverside Studios in Hammersmith.
They found the man clinging to a life ring which was attached to cord held by someone on the shore, and lifted him into the lifeboat where a paramedic removed his wet clothes and wrapped him in blankets to stop him getting any colder.
Despite the freezing temperatures, all three of these rescues were successful.
