Charing Cross Hospital based cancer charity Maggie’s is calling on people to raise funds and enjoy an exclusive night of entertainment from their own home.

The programme will feature celebs, entertainers and amazing buildings including an exclusive performance from Rick Astley.

The charity normally asks people to take part in their annual London Culture Crawl - a sponsored walk with access to hidden cultural gems across the city centre to raise funds - but due to social distancing a different approach had to be taken this year.

Maggie’s centre visitor Jane has taken part in previous years, Jane says, “Maggie’s was there for me when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and again when it returned last year. I found myself unceremoniously catapulted into a world that was terrifying and alien. Thank goodness Maggie’s were there to help me navigate my way through. As soon as I could, I started fundraising for Maggie’s as I wanted others to be able to experience the tremendous support that they provide.

“One of the most enjoyable ways I have raised funds was taking on the amazing Culture Crawl. This year Culture Crawl has gone virtual and I can’t wait to fundraise and relax on the 25th of September and watch the amazing entertainment on offer.
The best way to describe being told you’ve got cancer is that somebody kidnaps you, takes you away and drops you in another country. You’ve got no map, you don’t understand the language and somehow you’ve got to try to find your way home. Maggie’s helps you do that. So please join me in signing up for the Culture Crawl and help others living with cancer.”

Supporters are being asked to raise funds between now and 25 September - by running, walking, cycling, baking or in any other way imaginable – to gain access to an exclusive Virtual Culture Crawl featuring celebrities including music and short films from cultural venues across the UK and abroad, to be enjoyed with the family from the sofa.

Maggie’s West London Centre Head Sinead said, “We all know how life has been impacted by the coronavirus this year and it is still a particularly difficult time for those living with cancer, so we are asking people to help them get the support they need by signing up to our Virtual Culture Crawl. It is really easy, just decide how you want to fundraise, register and raise vital funds by Friday 25 September. You will gain access to an exclusive evening of culture to enjoy from the comfort of your own home – who could resist a night of fun from home?”

“People living with cancer need Maggie’s West London now more than ever. The last few months have been incredibly traumatic for people living with cancer with delays and uncertainty over treatment contributing to a huge rise in fear, stress and anxiety.”
