Puccini performed over four night at St John's Church

Did you know that Fulham has its own opera company? Fulham Opera, praised as an outstanding independent opera company by the website Opera Talent, is presenting a new version of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi over four nights - Tuesday March 20, Wednesday 21, Friday 23 and the final night, Sunday March 25.

The comic opera will be performed in English with a nine piece orchestra. Here are the full details:

Puccini’s comic opera comes to Fulham in a fresh contemporary English translation set in 1960’s West London.

Performed in St John’s Church, Fulham Opera’s latest production puts the audience at the heart of the action, placing them at the bedside of the deceased Buoso Donatti and surrounded by his grotesque grieving family.

In sweeps the quick witted mastermind Gianni Schicchi to help them sort their small legal problem with the will whilst ensuring that his darling daughter Lauretta can finally wed her sweetheart, Rinuccio.

Following his outstanding performance as Alberich in Das Rheingold last summer, baritone Robert Presley returns to Fulham Opera to play the eponymous Schicchi.

Tenor Alberto Sousa will set more than Lauretta’s pulse racing with his romantic Rinuccio and newcomer Jennie Witton plays Lauretta who will serenade audiences with the iconic "O mio babbino caro".

The family comprise of Rhonda Browne, Zoe South, Laura Hudson, Ian Massa-Harris, Ricardo Panela and Marcin Gesla with Ashley Mercer as Spineloccio and Spiro Fernando as the Notary.

Musical Director Benjamin Woodward conducts the nine-piece orchestra in his own orchestration (leader: Agnes Daniels) with Fiona Williams as director.
