A Tale of Two Beauties
Choose between the Beast ... and the Bust!
Theatregoers in Fulham are spoilt for choice this week, with two very different seasonal productions of the classic tale Beauty and the Beast.
At John McIntosh Arts Centre in the London Oratory School on Seagrave Road, the Imperial College School of Medicine Light Opera Society present their version of the Disney Broadway musical extravaganza, Beauty and the Beast.
Around the corner at Fulham Town Hall, amateur dramatic pantomime specialist Backend Productions offer a raucous night out with their Las Vegas style adult panto Beauty and the Bust, which they promise will include puns-a-plenty and Carry On humour.
The ICSM Light Opera Society was created in 1997 when the two historic societies of St Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital Medical School merged to form Imperial College School of Medicine. Every December, the society produces a week long production of some of our best loved musicals and this year they have chosen Disney's Beauty and the Beast, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice and Howard Ashman.
The show is on from December 6 until December 10 at 7.30pm, with doors open at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased online or by emailing mch06@ic.ac.uk.
Beauty and the Bust, which sees the traditional tale given a casino gangster Rat Pack Twist is suitable for everyone aged 14 and up. The panto will run from December 7 until December 11 at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 3.30pm. Tickets are available from Backend Productions' website
Both productions will raise funds for good causes. Proceeds from Beauty and the Beast go to the ICSM RAG charity, while all proceeds from Beauty and the Bust will be split between Help for Heroes, The Community Sports Foundation, Diabetes UK and The Royal Star and Garter.
