A Fulham school manager has won a national award.
Everol Halliburton, student services manager at The Bridge Academy, was presented with the National Association of School Business Managers (NASBM) award for pupil supervisor of the year.
Everol, 39, received the prize at a ceremony at Whittlebury Hall in Northamptonshire on October 3, after being nominated by head teacher Seamus Oates for his hard work, commitment and support for learners at the school. He grew up in the borough and has been at the Bridge for the last ten years, having started as a learning mentor.
“When I first learnt I had been nominated I was surprised but quietly pleased that the work I do is recognised by the team,” said Everol. “It was a long wait from hearing I had been nominated to actually attending the ceremony, but the excitement was immeasurable. I dedicated my win to all the young people I have encountered on my journey.”
Head Seamus Oates said: “I have worked with Everol for the last six years and have watched him build up an extremely effective team who have made a significant contribution to making the Bridge Academy such a successful school.
“Everol is extremely well regarded and respected by our young learners, their parents, staff and the local community. He has worked tirelessly to make the Bridge Academy a safe and supportive place for some of our most challenging learners. It’s brilliant to see Everol receive the credit that he deserves.”
Leading a team of six learning mentors, a therapeutic counsellor and pastoral coordinator, Everol has worked on various projects aimed at keeping the pupils safe. These include gun and knife crime workshops, visits from police and from theatre groups, and an anti-bullying programme. The team, which offers care, guidance and support, was called ‘outstanding’ in a recent Ofsted inspection.
Councillor Sarah Gore, acting cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This is an outstanding achievement, and one that is thoroughly deserved. Everol is dedicated to getting the best out of the teenagers at the Bridge and is always on hand to support them.
“It is obvious how much his efforts are appreciated by everyone who is involved in changing lives at the Bridge Academy and I would like to congratulate him on receiving this award.”
