Vandals Damage the New Lights on Putney Bridge
Wandsworth Council now looking at ways to deter future attacks
Vandals have damaged the spectacular new lighting system on historic Putney Bridge within days of it being turned on.
Local luminaries including the Mayor of Wandsworth Councillor Jane Cooper and Putney MP Justine Greening switched on gthe long awaited low energy eco-friendly LED floodlights on the side and under the arches of the Grade II listed bridge on 29 August.
Thamesfield Coumcillor Rosemary Torrington told our sister website PutneySW15.com that the Wandsworth Council is now looking at ways to deter future vandalism attempts.
"Following the unveiling of the spectacular bridge lights on Putney Bridge, Thamesfield councillors are disappointed by the recent vandalism of the lights," she said.
"We are working with police to address the problem and would welcome any information from residents who witness incidents."
Putney's MP Justine Greening told the website: "This is senseless vandalism and I hope that Wandsworth Council can make the necessary repairs as soon as possible."

The bridge when the lights were first switched on
Other recent improvements to Putney Bridge saw new pavements and a new road surface laid as part of repairs protect it against water penetration.
The repairs also saw its attractive ornate Victorian cast-iron lamp columns fully refurbished and restored and fitted with modern LED lights to make them shine brighter.
There are now similar plans to light up Wandsworth Bridge.
