Chelsea FC May Hold Parade in Fulham on Sunday

Event depends on result of Champions League Final on Saturday

Chelsea Football Club have announced they will hold a victory parade in Fulham at around 4pm on Sunday May 20 - but only if they win the Champions League Final on Saturday.

The club's announcement continues:

" Should we beat Bayern Munich on Saturday night, not only would it be our maiden Champions League victory, but the first time a London club has lifted the European Cup.

" The club has been in discussion with Hammersmith & Fulham, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Wandsworth councils, the police and other stakeholders regarding the inevitable fan interest if we are successful in Germany and decided to put in place plans to ensure large crowds do not present a public safety risk in the area around Stamford Bridge.

" If the parade goes ahead, the procession will start at approximately 4pm on Sunday 20 May from Stamford Bridge's west entrance before travelling east along Fulham Road and turning right onto Hortensia Road, and then right again onto King's Road and on to New King's Road. It is expected that it will take 35 minutes for the team to arrive at Eel Brook Common where the bus will make a short stop. The parade will end at Parsons Green.

" The route would be fully barriered and stewarded with pedestrian crossing points in operation to allow movement of people around the route."

" If the parade happens, there would be no parking in Hortensia Road. The inevitable consequence of this plan is that any vehicles parked on Hortensia Road on Sunday morning would be removed. We recognise this is an inconvenience but, on advice from the police this is a necessary imposition given the limited options for a viable parade route. The removal of barriers and clean-up operation on all routes affected by the parade would start as soon as crowd conditions allow.

" It is anticipated that many thousands of people may want to view the parade and for public safety reasons, the roads listed will be restricted and some totally closed to through-vehicle traffic from early Sunday morning until the crowds disperse. " The three councils involved are writing to all residents and businesses about the areas that could be affected by the parade to alert people to the arrangements on the day, including the road closures that will be needed."

The club add that no parade will take place if they lose the Champions League Final.

If the parade happens, it will cause even more traffic disruption for the area, which is already suffering from traffic chaos due the eastern lane of King's Road directly south of Stamford Bridge being closed to allow for the installation of a new gas main by National Grid.
