Fulham's Bridge Academy Learners Release Christmas CD

With all proceeds going to fund school's enrichment activities

Learners at Fulham’s Bridge AP Academy have released a special Christmas CD, which includes a variety of festive tracks including Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Jemma Bird, head of music, the Bridge AP Academy says:
" The learners have worked really hard as a group and produced an impressive collection of music. We hope to share this music and to sing some carols at local care homes and community centres during the festive season."

A choir has also been set up by the year 10 music group, with learners sharing responsibility for organising the album's production. This included budget management, artwork and song selection. The work will count towards their BTEC qualification.

Part of an initiative to develop music across the Academy, the project aims to encourage learners to engage in productive group activities which boost self-esteem and mutual respect, as well as building a sense of community.

Seamus Oates, executive headteacher, TBAP adds: “Music is a positive activity, bringing people together and channelling learners' skills, inspiring them to learn more and grow."

The CD is available now and costs £6 including postage and packaging. All proceeds will go towards funding learner enrichment activities. It can be ordered by visiting the TBAP Shop

The Bridge Academy is part of the Tri-borough Alternative Provision, or TBAP, Multi Academy Trust which was established in March 2013.

It currently covers the Alternative Provision needs of Four London boroughs: Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, Haringey and Westminster and comprises:

• Beachcroft AP Academy

• Bridge AP Academy

• Courtyard AP Academy

• Octagon AP Academy

• Latimer AP Academy

• Commissioning & School Support (CSS)

Alternative Provision Academies are a new type of school with more freedoms than local authority maintained units. As a multi-Academy trust and Academy sponsor, TBAP established the first AP Academies in the country. The Bridge AP Academy is rated as ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED.

TBAP is an approved DfE Academy Sponsor and provides education and support through its Alternative Provision (AP) Academies and support teams which work hard to make sure that every learner reaches their full potential.

Using a highly personalised curriculum, 21st century learning spaces, expert practitioners and therapeutic interventions TBAP’s Academies achieve staggering progress over time with their learners. TBAP also supports learners in mainstream schools via expert outreach teams.

You will be able to see more of Bridge Academy's work in a new TV series airing in January on BBC Three called Excluded: Kicked Out of School.
