100 organisations to benefit from Big Lottery Grant
Hammersmith and Fulham's Community and Voluntary Sector Association, an umbrella group which helps groups across the borough, has been awarded a Big Lottery Grant of almost £500,000.
The association, known as CaVSA, will use the money to benefit 100 voluntary and community organisations working in Hammersmith and Fulham.
Says Peter Okali, Chief Executive of CaVSA: " The Big Lottery Grant is for five years and will be used to employ two workers to support groups in developing partnerships so that they can better succeed when tendering for contracts or funding.
"With around 600 - 800 groups and organisations working in Hammersmith and Fulham, competition for scarce funding is a major problem."
Peter hopes the workers will be in place and ready to go into action by early summer. " The organisations we are supporting are from across the Borough and across all areas such as health, employment, environment and transport," he says. " Then of course there are groups who work with children, which crosses over lots of different areas."
Peter ads that CaVSA is also willing to lend its support to new groups who need help either setting up, seeking funding or running a specific project that helps the community.
