Hospital aims to educate, inform and entertain visitors
Have you always wanted to explore an operating theatre?That's just one of the attractions on offer at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital's Open Day, taking place on Saturday May 9.
Councillor Joanna Gardner, Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea will officially open the event at 11am and the fun will continue until 3pm.
The theme of this year’s Open Day is Your hospital, your health, your say to reflect the fact that the hospital belongs to all who use its services, work at the hospital or live locally.
Open Day 2009 has something for everyone, including attractions to educate, inform and entertain visitors, including behind the scenes tours, health advice and healthy eating tips.
As well as joining in exercise classes provided by Virgin Active, tasting hospital food and touring theatres, visitors can take a cleaning challenge to find out if they have what it takes to keep a hospital spotlessly clean. The winner of the challenge will win £100 of M&S vouchers.
Attractions for families include a children’s puppet show, screenings of a brand new DVD made by children for children who have to come into hospital for treatment, and a special Kids' Zone. There will also be live music throughout the day.
The Open Day is a popular annual event which last year attracted almost 1,700 visitors.
Open Day 2009 is made possible by the financial support of the hospital's Foundation Trust Members’ Council, which includes elected representatives of patients, members of the local community served by the hospital, and hospital staff.
