Wood pigeons are natural residents and make a very pleasant cooing sound. Best not to feed them as local rats are fed as a by-product. Quite different to the Trafalgar Square etc. London pigeons which appear to have given up making any noises with their voices as competing with traffic is a lost cause. So many people feed them that the survival of the fittest no longer applies, and many are ill or crippled. I don't know if they are yet genetically different from the suburban or rural type, but that cannot be far away.Parakeets are strangers strictly but a colourful addition to our bird life. I fear they are probably crowding some other species out - can some ornithologist tell us which?
