I LOVE FULHAM

I think this is an excellent idea and I hope that local people will support it.  However - as an endorsement of local people using their neighbourhood shops - the Council should consider making parking easier.  The current zoning system for residents are very small.  It would make a lot of sense if there was a small additional charge to the residents' parking permit (for those who want it), to enable shoppers to park their cars in the neighbourhoot streets in order to shop in the area.  I find myself having to buy several 30 minute parking tickets (90p)the moment I leave my zone, as I travel round the borough doing my shopping, which adds to the cost of living in the borough. You can't do this by public transport and a bicycle is not build for shoppers!  So if all the trades people and locals who want to use their local shops think this is a good idea - lets make it a petition!

The parking bays are in Askew Rd W12, from Bassein Pk Rd up to Cobbold Rd.  Don't seem to be any losers.  Smallish unloading bays [free for 30 mins] have also been introduced into 2 or 3 of the side streets.

Walking is always an option as Paul says.  But if you have heavy shopping (I have 6 cats and that's an awful lot of tins of cat food each week), the car is essential, especially if you are old(ish) and have a dodgy back.  Also we don't always have the luxury of time for a leisurly stroll to the shops - would it were otherwise.  I try to do most of my shopping on certain days of the week in order not to make too many short car journeys, and occasionally shop for neighbours - so I try to be economical in the use of the car too.  Fulham Council need to be aware of the variety of lifestyles in the borough when they make regulations.

Surely the answer is to walk, as I and my others who, either don't have a car or, as in my position, don't drive. Please don't suggest that I should learn to drive, because I am banned  for medical reasons as are many others, not just by the courts.

In response to consultations with Residents and Shops in our part of Shepherds Bush, LBH&F have changed a chunk of Pay and Display bays in our Parade to "Shoppers/30p for 30 mins no return etc."  Early days yet, but it seems to be a trial that is working...AND it relies on meter persons to enforce and they are a scarce resource!

I doubt if the L.B.H&F parking permit system is perfect anywhere in the borough, but what you don't want is the R.B.K&C system of one permit enabling parking anywhere in the borough and a vast excess of permits issued over spaces avaialble. So your proposal, Ann, though it looks tempting for those not close to the relevant shops, could mean hell for those who are. No easy answers!

The cost of a cardboard clock would not be much - it is used by other councils.  There is also the scratch card possibility - again used by other councils instead of a visitor's permit. But the cardboard clock with the movable hands would last indefinitely - and the (one off) cost could be included in the small aditional cost for the I LOVE FULHAM movement in the resident's parking permit.  It could be overprinted with the I LOVE FULHAM logo and only be available to residents who have a parking permit.

I am exactly the same and also go to Hammersmith or even Westside as they are offering foc parking at present. - The thing about the clock idea is that it would cost money - not sure the council would buy into that... anyone got any idea's ? Maybe a deal could be done with local shops whereby they refund you the ticket price and then they reclaim from the council ? They could brand back of of the ticket, I love fulham which you could peel off and take with you.

I agree that there should be be a time limit - a simple cardboard clock disk which would record the time of parking and displayed on the dashboard would be sufficient.  But I think 1 hour would be better. This would benefit the shops and residents.  If I have a variety of shopping to do I go to King Street in Hammersmith as I can park there cheaply for a maximum of 4 hours.  This benefits the traders in Hammersmith, but I would much rather remain in Fulham as it would also save me time.

Hi Ann, not a bad idea as long as it was a limited stay, similar to a 30 minute parking ticket. Maybe they see it as a revenue source first and foremost ?
