|22 Outstanding Buildings Open Their Doors|
Visitors invited during Open House London Weekend
22 of the most outstanding buildings in our borough are opening their doors this weekend, Saturday September 18 and Sunday September 19 as part of Open House London, an annual celebration of our city's architecture.
This event, now in its 18th year, aims to raise awareness of the difference well-designed buildings and open spaces can make to the quality of our everyday lives.
Here are the fascinating places which will be open to visitors either on Saturday, Sunday or on both days.
In Fulham, the exclusive Hurlingham Club will open its gates, along with Fulham Palace and All Saints Church. More unusual openings include 42 Avalon Road, a semi-detached house off Kings Road with its own courtyard overlooked by double height windows and Apartment A, The Piper Building, a home created from a tank room on the roof of the former British Gas Laboratory in Peterborough Road.
In Hammersmith, visitors can pre-book to join tours of Charing Cross Hospital, Lyric Theatre, 7 Hammersmith Terrace, the arts and crafts home of Emery Walker, and 44 Stamford Brook Road, which is showing off a minimalist garden extension.
There will also be tours on a first come, first served basis of Larmenier and Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, artists' studio Colet House and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), both in Talgarth Road, Voysey Studio, now the Hungarian Reformed Church in Dunstans Road and Roger Stirk Harbour and Partners' riverside offices.
Other open buildings are Latymer Upper School Performing Arts Cente, Kelmscott house, home of the William Morris Society and Linden House, both in Upper Mall, Palace Wharf and Maggie's centre by Charing Cross Hospital.
In Shepherds Bush, visitors can pre-book to join tours on Saturday of Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte's Hospitals and GlaxoSmithKline Clinical Imaging Centre, both in Du Cane Road.
