The elections will be held on Thursday, May 3 and Hammersmith and Fulham Council is reminding voters that ehy have until next Wednesday, April 18 to register.

The Mayor and London Assembly are responsible for many aspects of everyday life in the capital including transport, policing, the environment, housing and economic development.

The Mayor of London’s job ranges from developing policies on a range of issues to setting budgets and championing London around the world while the 25 Assembly Members hold the Mayor to account.

Of the 25 Assembly members, 11 represent the whole of the capital and 14 are elected to represent the constituencies - which are made up of two to four London boroughs. Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) is part of the West Central constituency.

To be able to vote in the London elections in H&F you must: live in H&F; be a British, Republic of Ireland, Commonwealth or EU citizen and be 18 years old or over on May 3, 2012.

Being registered with the council for services such as paying council tax will not automatically include you on the electoral register.

If you want to vote in these elections, you must make sure you are registered to vote by Wednesday 18 April, 2012. It takes just a few minutes to register to make sure you can have your say.

" The council’s electoral services team is working very hard to ensure that everyone who wants to vote in this May’s Mayoral and Assembly elections is able to," says H&F Returning Officer, Jane West. " There is not long to go now so anyone wishing to vote on May 3, who has not already registered with us, has until April 18 at the latest to get in touch with us."

London Elects, the independent organisation which is running these elections, will deliver a booklet to every registered elector in mid-April. This booklet will include the manifestos of all the Mayoral candidates and information about the practicalities of voting in these elections. People who register late but before the April 18 deadline will receive their booklets in the later part of April.
