The new year programme at Fulham Palace kicks off with a busy month of activities for adults and children and the continuation of an exhibition of archaeological discoveries.

Lecture Series – London Head Gardeners – Andrew Turvey

The  first gardens lecture series focuses on head gardeners at London properties and features seven evening talks each with a different speaker.  The third date in the series features Andrew Turvey, of Myddelton House and Gardens in Enfield – talking about ‘Discovering the hidden treasures of Myddelton house and gardens’

Embroidery Workshops – Inspired by Herbs – Embroidery Tips & Techniques

Inspired by the herbs grown at Fulham Palace in the 1600s, these workshops will be led by Owen Davies, lecturer and embroiderer from the Royal School of Needlework.

The first of the four workshops is Embroidery Tips & Techniques.  Have you ever wanted to learn how to transfer a favourite design onto fabric?  Now is your chance: Owen will introduce various difference transfer techniques from tracing to the traditional prick and pouncing.  Investigate how fabrics and embroidery techniques dictate the method of transfer.

Cost for this workshop is £45 (£35 for Museum Associates).  Additional workshops will be held on 23 & 30 January, and 6 February 2013, each costing £70 (£60 for Museum Associates), price includes a kit worth £25.  There is a 10% discount if booking all four sessions.

Embroidery Workshops – Inspired by Herbs – Make a lavender bag

Inspired by the herbs grown at Fulham Palace in the 1600s, these workshops will be led by Owen Davies, lecturer and embroiderer from the Royal School of Needlework.

The second of the four workshops is Make a lavender bag.  Use different stitch techniques with emphasis on long and short stitching combined with Mountmellick white-work.

Additional workshops will be held on 30 January and 6 February 2013. Each workshop costs £70 (£60 for Museum Associates), price includes a kit worth £25.  There is a 10% discount if booking all four sessions.

Inspired by the herbs grown at Fulham Palace in the 1600s, these workshops will be led by Owen Davies, lecturer and embroiderer from the Royal School of Needlework.

The third of the four workshops is Make a moth bag.  Use different stitch techniques with emphasis on metal thread embroidery.  Create a small gold-work moth using basic embroidery techniques.

Additional workshop will on 6 February 2013. Each workshop costs £70 (£60 for Museum Associates), price includes a kit worth £25.  There is a 10% discount if booking all four sessions.

Museum drop in afternoon

In honour of our current exhibition on the archaeology of Fulham Palace, this month’s drop in is Roman themed. Come and try on Roman costume, handle artefacts and learn about the history of the Palace.

Free, no booking needed, all ages welcome, takes place in the Fulham Palace Museum.

Please note – children must be accompanied by an adult throughout.

Found at Fulham

A new exhibition, Found at Fulham displays recent archaeological discoveries at Fulham Palace found during the Phase 1 and Phase 2 restoration works and items and information uncovered during the recent Community Archaeology Dig which took place in summer 2012.

The exhibition has now reopened after being closed over Christmas and runs until Wednesday 17 April in Bishop Sherlock’s Room. It is available to view during usual museum opening hours,  Saturday to Wednesday from 1pm – 4pm.
