North End Road's Summer Market was voted a huge success, with local people flocking to the street on Saturday as it became traffic free for the second time.

The day's events were launched by H&F Mayor Mercy Umeh, who arrived in style riding in a rickshaw.

Throughout the day, crowds strolled the length of the market in the summer sunshine, enjoying live music from a range of musicians including this one man band.

Attractions included stiltwalkers, a mini-funfair from John Parnham and stalls lining both sides of the street selling crafts, jewellery and gifts, clothes, plants, cakes, hot food and drinks, as well as the normal fruit and veg and the table top sale in St John's Churchyard.

For those looking for relaxation, there were massages and reflexology on offer plus a chill zone provided by the Cock Tavern.

Meanwhile there was a big demand for canvas bags been hand-paintedfor the occasion by over 200 seven - 11 year-old children from Sir John Lillie and Melcombe Primary Schools.

On its Twitter feed, @sirjohnlillie tweeted: " The bags are selling like hot cakes!"

Visitors' response to the Summer Market was unanimous. Nic Stevenson ‏@nicstevenson said:
"Lovely atmosphere on North End Road with no traffic just people!"

Linda Risso ‏@LindaRisso said: " Great market and wonderful people in #northendroad today! Can we do it more often?"

The question was answered by Fulham Broadway Cllr Ben Coleman, who tweeted ‏@BJ_Coleman: " Glad you enjoyed North End Road traffic-free market. We're aiming to repeat it in Sept and Dec as a start."

The Summer Market, followed by an After Party in a number of local bars and restaurants, also launched the annual week-long Celebrating Fulham festival, which runs till July 5 and showcases the area’s history, talent and entertainment and gives residents and visitors the chance to discover some of Fulham’s hidden treasures.
