Kings Road Gas Main Work to Finish Early on June 24

National Grid have announced that essential work replacing a gas main in Kings Road in Fulham is due to finish ahead of schedule on June 24.

The news will come as a relief to local motorists and residents as the work and resulting closure of an eastern section of Kings Road has been causing traffic chaos since May 14.

National Grid's update on the situation, which has been distributed to residents in the surrounding streets, says: " As you are undoubtedly aware National Grid is carrying out essential and urgent pipe replacement works in Kings Road to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable service,

" The work forms part of National Grid's ongoing 30 year pipe replacement programme and has been developed in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive and the industry regulator Ofgem.

" It is vital to our ongoing replacement programme that this particular project is completed during this year, and it was decided that the work must take place prior to the Olympic Games, after extensive consultation with key stakeholders, including London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Transport for London, Hammersmith and Fulham Council and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

"Work on Kings Road was originally scheduled to take seven weeks and be completed by June 30 2012. However this work has progressed well and we are now ahead of our original schedule. We anticipate that the project will be now completed by Sunday June 24, 2012."

The Kings Road closure and resulting traffic diversions have angered local traders, and National Grid acknowledge this saying: " We are fully aware of the traffic congestion that this scheme is causing and also fully aware of the impact it may be having on your businesses and homes. We are making every effort to complete the works as quickly as possible and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
