Organic and natural supermarket Whole Foods Market will officially opened on Fulham Broadway on April 10 at 10am.

The store, on the site formerly used by restaurant The Blue Elephant, actually opened its doors to the public on April 8 - with the whole of Fulham apparently descending to take a first look!

However, the store will have an official opening on Thursday with a bread breaking ceremony which Whole Foods say is held at every new store, performed at 10am with the help of H & F Mayor and local resident Frances Stainton.

There will be special events held throughout the day including performances by children from Albert and Friends Instant Circus, plus a chance for shoppers to taste and try out many of the store's products.

Albert and Friends will also be one of four charities to benefit from the store's pledge to give away 5% of the first day's proceeds.

The other three, all chosen by the Mayor are the local fund-raising charity The Daisy Trust, The Opportunity Fund in Fulham, which provides grants for community projects and Walking with the Wounded.

As well as the expected range of organic and natural foods, Whole Foods offers a traditional butcher and baker, with its own patisserie, a pasta bar, an organic cafe, a make your own peanut butter machine and a Mexicue cafe selling tacos and tortas.

On the upstairs floor is a beauty section, selling natural products, with an area where customers can try before they buy and a meeting room. This room will be available to local groups and organisations looking for somewhere to meet.

The store also has a weekly calendar of events, including a runners club, meetings for mums on Mondays, mini-beauty treatments in the Health and Beauty department and food and wine samplings. You can check out the calendar here.

At the time of the announcement of its launch, Jeff Turnas, Whole Foods Market’s UK Regional President said: " We are excited to be able to further expand our grocery offering to shoppers in West London.

" The Fulham Broadway store will be a fantastic addition to our portfolio of stores in the UK and it will allow us to show off the best in British foods such as our unique animal welfare rated meats and sustainably ranked seafood, while focusing on reviving traditional skills such as butchery and fishmongery in store.

" As with our existing London stores, our goal is to be the finest food shop in every community we serve. For example, we will be baking and cooking on site each day and we will be offering an amazing array of fresh, healthy and organic food, highlighting local products from our UK producers.

"We want our customers to celebrate the joys of eating and living well and we hope to help prompt conscious food choices."

The store will be open from 8am till 10pm from Monday to Saturday (with the coffee bar opening at 7.30am) and 11am till 5pm on Sunday (with coffee bar open at 10am.)
