London Fire Brigade says a fire which broke out in a flat in Fulham this afternoon is now out.

The brigade says firefighters spent an hour tackling the fire in a flat above a shop on Wandsworth Bridge Road in the Sands End area of Fulham this afternoon.

Crews were called after reports of a loud bang and a fire in a flat. The fire is now out, and structural engineers are on the scene to ensure the builing is safe. No one was injured.

Four fire engines from Fulham, Chelsea, and North Kensington fire stations were at the scene, along with an aerial ladder platform (like a cherry picker). The Brigade was called at 2.15pm and the fire was under control at 3.98.

The road was closed and buses diverted during the incident.

The cause of the explosion and fire is now under investigation.
